Made In University of Texas 5.5QT Dutch Oven is hand-enameled cast iron for the ultimate kitchen heirloom, with the Longhorns logo laser-engraved on the knob — at the current price of $94.90, down from $299, for online purchase at Honed Edge Cutlery.
Yes — 5.5 quarts is the ideal size for no-knead bread and sourdough boules. Preheat the pot, load your loaf, and the cast iron's trapped steam delivers a crackly crust and strong oven spring. A 5.5QT Dutch oven is big enough for standard round loaves with room for dough expansion.
Mix flour, water, salt, and a little yeast; rest 12–18 hours. Preheat the Dutch oven at your baking temperature, tip in the shaped dough, cover with the dimpled lid, and bake covered then uncovered. The enamel interior needs no seasoning and releases bread cleanly.
Hand wash with warm water, mild soap, and a soft sponge. Soak stuck-on bits in warm soapy water. Avoid dishwashers, steel wool, and thermal shock. The enamel resists staining and rust without any seasoning.
Bread baking, Texas chili and brisket braises, stews, roasts, and game-day entertaining for Longhorns fans. Also a standout gift for UT alumni and students.

Burnt orange never looked so good.
Big enough for a proper pot of chili and the Longhorns knob is beautifully done. Excellent cast iron all around.
That's a bold claim but I'm standing by it. My three-alarm chili simmers evenly for hours in this thing without scorching, and the burnt orange enamel looks right at home in my Austin kitchen. The laser-engraved Longhorns logo on the knob is sharp and hasn't shown any wear after dozens of uses. It went from stovetop sear to oven braise to table with zero issues. Cleanup is easy since nothing sticks to the enameled interior. At this sale price it undercuts the big French brands by a mile. Couldn't be happier with it.
Performance is excellent, sears beautifully and holds heat forever. Just be warned that at 5.5 quarts of cast iron, lifting it full takes some muscle.
Cooks wonderfully and the enamel seems durable. The orange is more saturated than I expected from the photos. My spouse loves it, so it stays.
Got one for myself and one for my brother-in-law, a diehard Longhorn. We're both blown away by the quality for the price. No regrets.
Bakes the most incredible crusty loaves. The lid traps steam perfectly and the even heat gives a beautiful rise every time.
After a few tomato-based dishes the interior enamel has developed stubborn staining that won't come out. Cooking performance is fine but I expected better stain resistance. Contacting support about it.
Gave this to my daughter who just moved to Houston. She calls it her pride and joy. Quality is genuinely impressive.
Braising, frying, baking bread, it handles it all. The team branding is a fun bonus on an already excellent cocotte.
Compared it side by side with a mid-range enameled Dutch oven and this one clearly holds heat longer and sears better. Extremely pleased.
Chili in the Longhorns pot while watching the game is now a family tradition. Well made, gorgeous, and worth every dollar.
