Global Masuta 5-Piece Knife Block Set – Japanese Stainless Steel, Made in Japan

These Masuta knives are feather-light compared to my old German set and the edges came frighteningly sharp. The block is compact and attractive on the counter. For under $100 with the coupon, this is honestly one of the best kitchen deals I've found. Made in Japan quality shows.

My wife and I both cook and she absolutely loves how light these are — her wrist doesn't ache after big prep sessions anymore. They hold an edge well with weekly honing. I personally prefer a bit more heft, hence four stars, but objectively these are excellent Japanese knives for the money.

No complaints on the blades — sharp out of the box and they've stayed that way for two months of daily use. But the block itself is fairly plain and lighter than it looks in photos. The knives alone would be five stars; the whole set feels more like three and a half, rounding to three given the original list price.

My old knives required serious pressure to cut anything. The Masuta chef's knife glides through onions and the paring knife handles delicate work beautifully. Being lightweight worried me at first, but after two weeks the speed and control won me over completely. At this sale price it feels like I got away with something.

Bought this as an upgrade from a grocery store block set and the difference is enormous. Japanese stainless takes and holds a great edge. Docked a star because the included knives don't fill every block slot, which looks a little odd, and I'd have liked a honing steel included. Otherwise superb.

Bought this set for my daughter and son-in-law and they call me weekly about how much they love it. They're young cooks and the lightweight, forgiving blades have been perfect for learning proper technique. The block looks elegant on their counter. Great gift at a great price.

I know Japanese steel is harder and more brittle than German, but I only cut vegetables and boneless meat, and the chef's knife developed two chips within six weeks. Performance while sharp was great, honestly, but the durability doesn't match the original price. The sale price makes it more forgiving, yet I'm still disappointed.
