I own a French classic costing three times as much and this Made In oval performs identically. The 7.5 quart size swallows a whole chicken with vegetables to spare, the enamel is flawless, and the lid seals tight enough to braise with almost no liquid loss. At this sale price it's the best cookware purchase I've made in a decade.
It's a beast at 7.5 quarts, so plan your shelf and your wrist accordingly. But the braise results are outstanding and the hand-enameled finish is beautiful. Three stars off? No, just respect the weight. Four and a half really.
This pot has become the centerpiece of our weekend cooking. Whole chickens come out with crackling skin and falling-off-the-bone meat, and the oval shape actually fits large roasts better than my old round dutch oven.
Perfect pot. Fits a whole chicken easily and braises beautifully.
Cooks evenly and the enamel has held up well through six months of weekly use. My complaint is the lid knob gets very hot and the whole thing is heavy to maneuver full of food. Performance is undeniable though.
Cooked beef bourguignon for my very critical mother-in-law and she asked what restaurant catered it. The even heat distribution means no scorched bottom and the tight lid keeps everything moist. The color is gorgeous enough that I leave it on the stovetop. Cleaning is easier than expected, a soak and a soft sponge handles everything.
Sear on the stove, finish in the oven, one pot from start to finish. The interior enamel shows light staining after tomato dishes but a baking soda paste cleared it right up. Very happy overall.
I was worried about the weight but the side handles make it manageable even when full. I've made pot roasts, chicken and dumplings, and sourdough bread in it. Nothing sticks, nothing scorches, and it cleans up like a dream. Reminds me of my mother's old French pot but in better condition.
Bought this for my daughter and son-in-law and apparently it's the only gift they've actually used every week. They've done roasts, soups, stews, and even deep-dish pizza in it. Hand-enameled quality is evident the moment you hold it.
The cooking performance is five stars, truly exceptional browning and moisture retention. The enamel on one handle developed a small chip after a knock against the faucet, and customer service sent a replacement quickly. Great pot, great company.
The first one arrived with a crack in the enamel and the replacement had a chip on the base. Packing clearly needs work. Cooking performance seemed good on the short test before I returned it, but I can't recommend based on my experience.
