The Ko-Bunka is Made In's smaller take on the classic Japanese Bunka. Its wide profile and agile tip make it ideal forPush-cutting herbs, slicing shallots, dicing garlic, breaking down small proteins, and delicate detail work — the knife serious home cooks reach for between a santoku and a petty.
Cooks who want one compact Japanese knife for fast, precise prep without the length or price of a full gyuto.
A hard VG-10 core delivers long-lasting sharpness, while 67 layers of Damascus steel add strength, flexibility, and a striking finish. Expect edge stability closer to a gyuto than a stamped santoku.
A nakiri is a flat, rectangular vegetable chopper. The Ko-Bunka's angled reverse-tanto tip and shorter blade give you push-cutting power plus tip control for scoring, trimming, and small-batch work. If you want one knife that does both, the Ko-Bunka is the more versatile buy — especially at this discount.
Hone on a ceramic rod between uses and sharpen on a 1000/6000-grit whetstone at roughly 10–15° per side to preserve the VG-10 edge.
At $91.90 vs $269, this Limited Edition Ko-Bunka is 66% off. Apply coupon EDGE10 at checkout, and orders over $45 ship free — a rare deal on a limited-run Damascus knife. Compare alternatives: full-size Bunkas and Damascus santokus routinely sell for $150–$300.

The Ko-Bunka is a compact Japanese multipurpose knife for precision prep — slicing herbs, dicing shallots and garlic, trimming small proteins, and detail work where a full chef's knife is too large.
Right here at Honed Edge Cutlery — the current online price is $91.90, down from $269, with free shipping on orders over $45.
A nakiri only push-cuts vegetables; the Ko-Bunka adds a workable tip for trimming and scoring, making it the more versatile single-knife choice for most cooks.

The Damascus pattern is mesmerizing and the edge arrived scary sharp. The compact bunka profile is perfect for precise board work — push cuts, tip work, everything. It's become the first knife I reach for every single day.
I thought my 210mm gyuto was irreplaceable until this arrived. The shorter blade gives incredible control for garlic, shallots, and herbs, and the tip is great for detail work. VG-10 holds its edge better than anything else in my block.
Beautiful fit and finish, superb steel, comfortable handle. Just be aware that 'compact' is accurate — if you're used to a full-size chef knife, it takes a bit of adjustment. For small-batch prep it's unbeatable.
I hesitated at the price and now I'd pay it again without blinking. The grind is even, the fit and finish rival knives at twice the cost, and food releases from the blade cleanly.
No complaints about performance — it's sharp, well balanced, and gorgeous. I just struggle to justify the cost for a knife this small when my chef knife does most of the heavy lifting. Niche tool, executed very well.
This is the scalpel of my knife block. The bunka tip lets me do delicate work I'd normally need a paring knife for, and it powers through onions too. Zero regrets.
Damascus steel, perfect edge, feels amazing in hand. Buy it.
Cutting performance is outstanding and the edge stability of the VG-10 core is everything I hoped. The handle-to-blade transition could be slightly smoother, though it doesn't affect use. After three months of weekly sharpening maintenance it still behaves like new.
Bought this for my partner and immediately ordered a second for myself after using it once. It handles like a dream and looks like art on the magnetic strip.
The knife itself cuts beautifully, but I found a tiny chip in the edge within the first week of light home use. My cutting boards are wood and I never twist the blade, so that shouldn't happen with VG-10 this hard. Customer service is sending a replacement, so I'll update, but the QC experience stung for a limited edition.
I've cooked seriously for thirty years and own Japanese knives from three well-known makers. This Ko-Bunka is the most fun to use of any of them — nimble, sharp, and beautifully finished. My wife jokes that I show it to dinner guests, and she's right.
As someone with smaller hands, most chef knives feel like baseball bats. This compact bunka gives me all the capability with far more control. The edge came hair-popping sharp and has stayed there with a quick strop now and then. Limited edition or not, this is a keeper.
